This female coastal brown bear,
Ursus arctos, has a full time job. As a mother of two spring cubs, she has the responsibility to watch after her young, provide for them and also eat enough to sustain her through the coming winter. The intense look on her face showed the level of commitment to protect her cubs, which is the sole responsibility that is placed on sows. Her two young can be seen safely protected in the background in the high grasses.
